Page 14-I think back on those moments in time when I became someone else to please the guys I dated. I say become someone else because I altered myself for the sake of the relationship. I would stop going out; cut back on talking to friends or visiting family as often. I poured everything into building the relationship.
This was so wrong on every level imaginable.
See, for one thing-there is nothing we, humans, can do to ensure a one hundred percent guarantee relationship. Even a mother will abandon her child if that is the way their lives are ordained. Sure, we have the freedom to choose or decide the intention of our outcomes.
Notice how I said “the intention.” It is intentional because as we live long enough, we realize the reality of this: our plans be different from God’s plans.
And for another thing-when God has called us to be a light, there’s no one relationship that we can pour our all into. As a candle can not be hidden under a table and the sun can not be hidden in a cave, neither can the humans who are called to be the light of the world, be hidden in a single relationship.
